Rude and rip off! ??? There is a AH supermarket 500 meters walking from here, where they charge "reasonable" prices and have employees with "good attitude". I don't have lots of regrets in my live, but after I walked out "De Pinguin", I had it big time. ????

An absolute rip off of a place. The guy behind the counter just seems to make up the prices as he sees fit. We only realised what he had charged as we walked down the street, then noticed there was no receipt. Avoid at all costs. As shady & dishonest an establishment as you will find in Amsterdam. And that says it all.

€14 for a litre of water, a packet of crisps, a packet of sweets and a lighter. Absolute madness! Would not recommend unless you’re desperate.

De Pinguin is one of the few night shops in the city centre and the only one in the 9 streets area. Open until 2 am, it is somewhat more expensive than the local supermarkets including nearby Albert Heijn on Elandsgracht which is open until 10 pm, but that's the price for the convenience of late night shopping. There is no shortage of customers and the place is invariably busy. At the front of the store, there's a vitrine with trays of ice-cream in every colour imaginable, while inside refrigerators are stocked with the proprietary bands. For those with a sweet tooth, there's also a huge selection of biscuits, chocolates and sweets. Many people come here to buy cigarettes and rolling tobacco and there's a reasonable selection of beers, wines and soft drinks. A delicatessen counter has the basic ingredients for staving off hunger such as bread, sliced meats and cheese. At the rear of the shop is a small deep freeze section with a limited offering of frozen meals and pizzas. A handy place to know when all the other shops are closed.

If it was possible I would give zero stars. The man working there (I don’t know if he is the owner) is very rude. I just picked a package delivered by Homerr. I gave my ID, he asked me if I knew the name of the delivery company which I couldn’t find instantly so he asked me in an ugly tone if my name was in any of his notes from the different delivery companies. I finally found it, before leaving he said that for next time I should know the name of the company. I understand that he has many packages from different companies, but there are many ways of saying things and his was not the correct one. I couldn’t go without saying anything, so I replied that maybe next time he could try to be a little bit nicer, of course he didn’t like it. It is not the first time I go to that shop, it is not the first time they are not nice, but today was just too much. Terrible service!

Such a nice place - big, clean, bright. I came to drop my package for Relay - was efficient and pleasant
