Het News Café is dé ontmoetingsplek in het centrum van Groningen. Loop binnen bij het Grand Café of neem plaats op het uitgebreide terras rondom het prachtige pand. Een fijne plek waar je geniet van een heerlijke espresso, een fris drankje en een uitgebreide lunchkaart.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice ambience in and out, although the latter risks being inundated with smokers in good weather. Food is quite decent, if a bit pricey. Coffee decent, service friendly but not amazingly sharp. Good beer selection, but not cheap!

I ordered the "carpaccio salad" thinking it would be a carpaccio and a side of salad, but instead it's carpaccio on top of a salad, you get truffle mayo on top of it but it's missing the fundimentals of a carpaccio and a salad, there is no red wine vinegar, lemon, salt or pepper on the carpaccio and no dressing on the salad, the meat is also low quality and more pink than red. When the dish came i noticed there was a fly in the salad, but when I told the waiter he was very friendly and helpful and provided quick service. So my only complaint about this place is the specific dish I ordered, didn't try anything else but judging by this one dish the food is atrocious. But portably a nice place to stop and have drinks.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I organized my graduation diner followed by a party here. The food during diner was good, the service not so much. Expecting ~30 guests a limited but good menu with few options was chosen for convenience and offering guests some choice. Unfortunately the place insisted on letting the full choice for options known in advance; kind of defeating the purpose of a limited menu and ruining the “surprise” for guests. The service had difficulty counting plates/guests, and initially forgot to serve some guests with starters, causing a delay and cold food for others. and there were mixups of drinks.
During the following party, snacks were supposed to be served. We have never seen them…

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is a QR code on each table that you can use to place your order directly online with your smartphone. We can't say how well this works, because while we were still putting together our food and drinks, a staff member came to the table to take our requests. We got coffee, fresh orange juice and some sandwiches for breakfast, which was a good start to the day in a beautiful place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good location . I sat here in the evening for a meal. The restaurant is located on a busy corner intersection in Groningen so lots of foot traffic. The service was good but slow. At least they took the time to check up on things. The food was pricey as were the drinks. My food unfortunately was served cold. My first drink ( a simple drink ) took 15 minutes to arrive. the entire patio which arrived after me was served first.
