Important to know who secured our freedom, some have paid with their death. Let's never forget this.

On 17 September 1944 the American 501st Airbone Division landed here. This in connection with Operation Marketgarden. Unfortunately she landed at the wrong castle, they had to be dropped 6km away in Veghel. One parachutist would later become known, Father Sampson. He landed with another parachutist in the moat of the castle. When they helped each other out, he went back to show up his equipment. After the castle was captured from the Germans, the division advanced to the correct drop zone. Father Sampson was left with several injured. He went looking for transport for the injured. When he returned with a number of horse and wagons with Dutchmen on the box, unfortunately the castle was already in German hands. Father Sampson survived the war and died in 1994. Respect for these men ...

Go you Screaming Eagels Drop through the sky. Never let your strenght and gourage fail, and as you hit, keep going with that Bastogne spirit, wich has carried freedom’s grail. Come on, let’s go, you Screaming Eagles Fight for the right to be called a son of the one-o-one ! So here we go. You know, the Eagles are diving from the sun. Look out for the mightiest men of Geronimo !
If only everyone who treats our freedoms so unfairly would realize how hard they fought for our freedom. In places like this I honor the fallen, but I am also deeply ashamed of the disrespect of our youth today. Apart from my thanks, I usually also apologize. That shouldn't have been necessary. Well, in this place it is good to remember. Honourable, respectful and dignified. Thanks to the founders of this monument, and to those who maintain it today.
