★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eén van de elf fonteinen die in de elf Friese steden werden gecreëerd in het kader van Leeuwarden Culturele Hoofdstad 2018. Zo nu en dan begint deze walvis te spuiten. Om hem van dichtbij te bekijken, wandel je een eindje de Zuiderpier in Harlingen op.
One of the eleven fountains that were created in the eleven Frisian cities in the context of Leeuwarden Cultural Capital 2018. Every now and then this whale starts spraying. To view it up close, walk a little up the Zuiderpier in Harlingen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Mooie fontein, de walvis in de Nieuwe Willemshaven te Harlingen. Ooit stond Harlingen in het teken van de walvisvangst. Tegenwoordig streven wij er niet meer naar om deze grote en grootste dieren te dode., maar juist om ze van de dood te redden. Vooral nu ze om onduidelijke redenen steeds vaker in ondiepe wateren stranden. De fontein van Harlingen is een levensechte potvis. Hij ligt als verdwaald bij de zuidpier, maar af en toe verraadt zijn krachtige waterstraal dat hij wel degelijk in leven is. Zo getuigt 'De Walvis' van de enorme invloed die de mens heeft op alles wat leeft in de zee. Aldus de omschrijving in de brochure over de 11 Fonteinen.
Beautiful fountain, the whale in the Nieuwe Willemshaven in Harlingen. Harlingen was once dominated by whaling. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Leuke plaats om wat rond te hangen. Af en toe spuit de fontein water. Je dient wat geluk te hebben om het te fotograferen.
Nice place to hang out. Every now and then the fountain sprays water. You have to be lucky to photograph it.
