About Agora Roermond

Agora is de oud-Griekse benaming voor plein. Op de Agora (het plein) gaven oude, Griekse wijsgeren en belangrijke filosofen les aan een ieder die van hen wilde leren. Wij dragen de naam Agora omdat een plein de plek is waar je elkaar ontmoet, verbaast en inspireert. Ons symbolische ‘plein’ vind je binnen de muren van Wings Agora, maar ook ver daarbuiten. Buiten school leer je namelijk nog veel meer dan op school! Zo bereiden we je voor op het leven, niet alleen op een carrière.

M	Maurits on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Een hele dag op bezoek geweest ter oriëntatie op dit bijzondere onderwijs. Zeer interessant om te zien hoe ze maximaal inzetten op het stimuleren van de motivatie van leerlingen door het geven van veel autonomie. Leerlingen krijgen de eerste jaren de vrijheid om zelf te bepalen wat ze willen leren en hoe ze het willen leren. Daarbij hanteren ze o.a. het netwerk van de ouders die zelf natuurlijk in allerlei beroepen zitten, maar ook experts daarbuiten (over de hele wereld via internet). Dat geeft veel motivatie en zorgt ervoor dat ze snel ontdekken wat hun interesse heeft. Na verloop van tijd gaan ze dan vanzelf kijken wat ze later willen worden een wat voor toelatingseisen die opleiding heeft. De school heeft ondanks deze extreem vrije leervorm een hoog slagingspercentage. Ze geven wel zelf aan dat ze deze leermethode eerst nog verder willen ontwikkelen alvorens ze ermee naar buiten treden in de zin van coaching van andere scholen en leerkrachten. In the first few years, students get the freedom to decide for themselves what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. In doing so, they use, among other things, the network of parents who are of course in all kinds of professions, but also experts outside the world (via the internet). That gives a lot of motivation and ensures that they quickly discover what interests them. After a while they will automatically see what they want to become later and what admission requirements that education has. Despite this extremely free form of learning, the school has a high pass rate. They do indicate that they want to further develop this learning method before they go public in the sense of coaching other schools and teachers.

B	Brendan Jeffers on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have heard of this school not too long ago, and heard that it is AWESOME. I wish I was born in the area, but I'm just a North American who has never been outside of North America. Maybe I could get a teachers degree and go live out there and try to apply for a position. But that may be 7-10 years from now, because I'm just an average sophomore that goes to a charter school because I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD about 13 years ago. I hope the teachers there are also having fun with students, especially since it offers some great CTE paths that I find interesting to teach about. Maybe I could also enroll my future children there.
