Apartment TAXUS - Taxusstraat 20

Sweet home for couple weeks. This is the way I can characterize the Taxes apartments. 10 min walk to the supermarket, 5 min walk to the beautiful lake and a park. A lot to see in the walking distance and the location in the greatest district Kralingen. Highly recommended.

I stayed at Taxusstraat Apartments in Apartment 1 for 6 weeks from January to beginning of March while in Rotterdam as a visiting professor at Erasmus University. I chose it because it is close to a park where I could run and it is close to the University. Those are the two best features. The apartment overall is not comfortable and is rundown especially for the price. I paid approximately 2,000 euros for the time period and feel it was too much for the quality of the apartment. The heating is a radiator and the building is old and I found that it was not warm enough given the cold temperatures of Rotterdam at this time of year. The furniture is older and not that comfortable. There are only two chairs and no couch for people to sit together. The apartment faces west and so does not get good sunlight when there is sun. The kitchen is outdated with old appliances and features. For example the sink does not have a removable drain and so got clogged with bits of food that came from dirty dishes and eventually clogged the sink. Also the bathroom is very old and feels a bit grungy. Also there was only one small area mat over hard wood floors which were old, dirty and cold, which contributed to the coldness of the apartment. Also, there were no supplies in the apartment for cleaning or anything. So no toilet cleaning liquid, no paper towels, only 1 roll of toilet paper, only 2 garbage bags, etc. I understand it is not a bed and breakfast, but you should not be expected to buy cleaning and other materials to stay at an Airbnb. There is also only one small washer and dryer for 4 apartments and it doesn't seem to work very well as it takes at least 1 hour to wash a small load of clothes and 2 hours to dry it. Finally, the owner was renovating one of the spaces in the building for the entire 6 weeks I stayed there and there was significant construction activity and noise almost every day I was there starting from 7 in the morning. The owner did not inform me that the building would be under construction prior to my arrival. And of the two times that I texted him when the work noise woke me, he texted back once that he did not think it was that noisy and so implying I shouldn't be complaining about it. There were days it was so noisy because of jackhammering that I could not be in the apartment at all. There were times the water was shut off. And though the owner always let me know the night before if there would be some big disruption, he should have let me know prior to my booking that the building would be under such construction because it was truly disruptive. I would not have stayed there had I known in advance. Overall though the location was good for me, but it was not worth the money that was charged. It was not a pleasant and comfortable stay in this apartment.

Spacious. Hot water system is quite old & water temperature, pressure fluctuates quite badly. The location is not so great if you want to travel regularly to city center.
