Begijnhof - Catharinastraat 45
De instelling “Begijnhof Breda” bestaat met zekerheid sinds 22 maart 1267. Ze is ononderbroken blijven voortbestaan tot op de huidige dag. In 2017 werd het jubileum van het 750-jarig bestaan met tal van activiteiten gevierd. Het Begijnhof is de oudste instelling van Breda en ongetwijfeld een van de oudste rechtspersonen van Nederland. Ooit waren er ongeveer 1000 begijnhoven of conventen in Europa waarvan in een aantal gevallen nog wel de bebouwing resteert maar waarvan de oorspronkelijke instellingen zijn opgeheven. Dit met uitzondering van het Begijnhof Breda dat sinds 1531 onder bescherming staat van het geslacht van de Nassau’s.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When I lived in Breda, I was in an abusive relationship and at rock bottom in all aspects of life. Going to this garden, walking through and attending a service at this little church, was one of the only bright points I remember from this time. A small moment of peace. Highly recommend <3

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very small yet calm place. I have lived here in the city for years and never once found it to be crowded. It is minutes away from the city center. Easy walking distance. If you happen to be in the big park then do please go in and have a look. It is right around the corner.
A really a pleasant place to walk around in or to sit and read a book. In summer it looks delightful and in winter it looks like a small medieval wonder. As far as i am aware it is free of charge to walk around the garden. I go at least once a month and never had to pay to walk around.
