★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Oud Beets was lang een zelfstandig dorp. Dat veranderde toen het in 1925 bij Beesterzwaag werd toegevoegd. Tot die tijd stond het ook bekend als Beets. De benaming Oud Beets dateert wel al van de 19e eeuw. In 1863 werd er een nieuwe kern gesticht door veenarbeiders op het grondgebied van Beets. Deze nieuwe kern werd Nieuw Beets genoemd, het huidige Nij Beets en zo werd het oude Beets, Oud Beets genoemd.
 Oud Beets was an independent village for a long time. That changed when it was added to Beesterzwaag in 1925. Until then it was also known as Beets. The name Oud Beets dates back to the 19th century. In 1863 a new core was founded by peat workers in the Beets territory. This new core was called New Beets, the current Nij Beets and that is how the old Beets, Old Beets was called.
