★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For the old schoolers who still send/collect postcards from foreign places, this library may just be perfect. Most places in this city sell commercial, over-priced postcards that don’t say much. Here you can have one for 0.50, 0.80, 1 euro (they also sell some for more than this price, bigger ones that are also lovely), most of them represent paintings or architectural designs (the two photos of the postcard with a chair on it are of the one I bought from this shop that my cousin received from me in July). Regarding the variety of books - as expected, most of them are in Dutch, but they also have a few in English, you can just ask the staff anytime, they are friendly and considerate. After you check this bookstore, 3 min away by foot there is another one, Boekhandel Dominicanen, it’s basically a church that hosts both a bookstore and a café - not something you encounter in every country. Of course, as you may have expected, it’s more focused on the touristic aspect (and you won’t find the kind of postcards I was looking for there, and certainly not at similar prices!). All in all, enjoy your stay in Maastricht!
