Even have a table where you can grab coffee and read a book you just bought, although I feel bad at taking free coffee from an independent place. Really friendly staff and love walking in to public events which engage the community

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The De Vries Bookshop is one of the interesting places to see if you are taking the Visit Haarlem - Bavo to Bavo heritage walk around the city. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm (Tues - Sat), 12-5pm (Sun) and 12-6pm (Mon).
This is a bookstore that has been operating for over 100 years along Gedempte Oude Gracht, not far from Grote Markt. What makes the store peculiar is how it has expanded over the decades by purchasing adjacent shops, then creating openings in the walls.
This has had the effect of creating new rooms for bookshelves while maintaining the original architecture, design, shape and form of the various properties. The result is something of a maze or hodgepodge of different rooms and a truly unique book store that is worth a quick look around while sightseeing around Haarlem.
Note that the bookshop is mostly filled with Dutch language books. However, there is a small English section as well, if you are interested in picking up a book at this interesting bookshop in Haarlem.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The selection of books in English isn't very vast but is there nonetheless. The area is lovely and has a wide variety of books in Dutch. Nothing like i've ever seen before.
