A dessert in front of lobsters in cuffs was not such an enjoyable scenario.

They do not accept all credit cards.

Good food, decent prices and interesting combinations. Decent selection of wines and snacks too.

Posh place where things go slow. Do not go in if you are in a rush. We had some miniature sandwiches which are designed to be combined but variation, but i thought the balance of bread to filling was of.

Asked to split meal. She didn't understand so we said to share. Her response was fine we can do that. She charged for two meals. We were also told it was a fish-fish-meat special. We asked for only fish so only received two of the three. She asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, my husband said no, and I asked if it was included. She said yes and I asked what our choices were, as it was included. There were no choices, despite the fact that she offered the menu. Hmmmm. On top of all that, the dinner was adequate. The cold fish was barely acceptable, but the cod was good. The salad was onions; possibly that is normal here? Would not go there again but we had two great meals elsewhere, so maybe that's as good as it gets.

Incredible experience. Unexpected gem of fine dining in a tiny Dutch town. Don’t let the name misguide you - there is nothing “diner” about this place as It is a high end restaurant at more than reasonable prices - starting with the welcoming wait service through heartfelt wishes for safe travels at the end. Menus are encased in white “crocodile skin” covers, snow-white tablecloths, table setting includes a complete drink service set and silver service sets. Esther, whom I cannot refer to as waitress, as she was so much more than someone who waits on people - the maitre d’, the waiter, your ambassador to the kitchen and more. She warmly welcomed us, offered to take our coats, escorted us to our tables while expertly pulling out our chairs and asking where we are from - she has an amazing smile and makes you feel like you’re the only diner in the room. She was well versed in the menu and made excellent suggestions, not only for adults but also our children (6 and 8 years old). Attention to detail is evident - from the welcome aperitif to the softened butter for the warm home baked brioche. This place goes above and beyond to please. My daughters dish was not what she expected (she’s 6 years old, so not surprising) and Esther gently and with a lovely smile asked her what she wanted to eat - so that Esther could speak to the chef (Martin) and see if they can replicate it. How does one explain to a high end Dutch chef that the child would like a Kraft Mac & Cheese? Well, Esther went to the kitchen and the chef (Martin) took the time to try and recreate it - even though he’s never seen this dish before. The attention to detail and the goal to please the clients is incredible. Coming from NYC and having been to and seen a lot of restaurants from the everyday to the very high end (Le Bernardin, Four Seasons, Eleven Madison), this place ranks equal to NYC restaurants in decor, cuisine, service and experience. Considering that the prices were lower than expected given the overall experience, this is surely a place not to miss. If you’re looking for a basic joint to have a quick bite to grab, this is not it. If you are looking for a special experience that is a respite in your travels to have a sophisticated break in a very civilized atmosphere and more than agreeable prices - Bovenmeester is the place to be. Best meal, experience and people we met in Holland and the most unforgettable dinner stop we ever made while on the road during vacation. Highly recommend!

One of the best restaurants in the region, I had the fortune of celebrating my birthday here with friends and family, and although pricey it was definitely worth it. Top-class food is simply worth it, we had four courses with an appetizer and with each course the service was excellent. This isn't some kind of buffet or a la carte, this is a true restaurant with real service. Waitresses announce what they have brought before you and even though the portions may seem small, they really add up to a satisfying whole. This is the best restaurant I have eaten at so far.
