Canali, ponti, palazzi... storti, una statua, caos e biciclette ovunque. Amsterdam molte volte è semplicemente così.
Canals, bridges, buildings ... crooked, a statue, chaos and bicycles everywhere. Amsterdam is often just like that.

Near the Weight Tower in Amsterdam, a monument to the Dutch poet was erected, the work of the sculptor Pete Esser, the idea is taken from the work “Spanish Brabander”. The main character, a fraudster Jerolimo, is talking with a woman of easy virtue and trying to kiss her. This episode formed the basis of the idea of the monument.

Leuk om naar te kijken hoe de Spanjaard toen het Hollandse vrouwtje het hof maakte.. in onze eigen ogen.
Nice to see how the Spaniard then courted the Dutch woman.. in our own eyes.

This monument stands in tribute to to Gerbrand Adriaensz Bredero, a poet and playwright during the Dutch Golden Age. The sculpture depicts a scene from one of his plays, "The Spanish Brabander" and features a couple embracing in a scene. The sculpture is appropriately located just outside of Amsterdam's notorious Red Light District, where the main protagonist of the play would've spent his evenings. The sculpture is an amusing edge to it, almost comically theatrical in the expression depicts on the faces of the who characters. There's a lack of realism in the overall depiction and leave the whole sculpture ultimately unsatisfying, but still worth a look if you're in the area or happen to be familiar with Dutch literature.
