In October 2014 I found a “Tjalk”, a historical Dutch sailing barge, for sale on the internet. We had a look at her and after some consideration we decided to have survey done by a HISWA expert. I found three companies on the internet and requested a quote from them. With my request I had included a copy of a previous survey carried out in 2001. When the three quotes came in it was clear that the decision was not a matter of price as there was very little difference between the three. From the quote presented by Mr Brunsmann it was apparent that he had studied the previous survey closely and had considered what really needed to be looked at. On the day of the inspection I went up top Friesland. Mr Brunsmann had already started at 8 AM that morning. We had coffee break to discuss his findings sofar. I was immediately impressed with his expertise and attention to detail. At some stage Mr Brunsmann discovered that there was a problem with the steel bottom of the craft. After some deliberation we decide to not put the ship back in the water as was planned but to take a closer look at the hull. All this was done to the agreed price. Within a few days I received a clear and detailed survey rapport. I had a few follow up questions which were dealt with in great detail. A great help to allow me to proceed with purchase of the vessel. All in all I found the services of Mr Brunsmann courteous, very knowledgeable and flexible. Daan Bruijel
