I had read before my trip to Holland that this was one of the few places where I could try arguably the best and rarest beer in the world-Westvleteren 12. Not only did they have it but they had its younger brother Westy 8 as well. I had no what to expect being an American in a local bar. Well I could not have had a better evening with such gracious hosts! I can't begin to tell you how kind and fun these people were. Not only was the bartender fantastic but also the locals who frequent this place. Truly kind and fun people. To top it off, the owner welcomed me with open arms-explaining to me a bit of the history of this place and letting me check out his elaborate (and I'm sure expensive) music system. You name the song and he had it! He really went out of his way to make sure I felt like a guest in his wonderful place. It is much more charming than anything we really have here in the US, especially San Diego. Full of character and history...and an amazing selection of beverages! Do yourself a favor and DO NOT miss this place if you are in town or anywhere near Café De Knijnspiep. I can't wait to go back.
