Cafe De Oude Jan is at the foot of the Old Church of Delft, also nicknamed De Oude Jan (the Old John). The church has been there since 1250, the Cafe since 1939. The interior looks like it dates back to 1939 indeed. They have a large outside terrace in the spring sunshine with pleasant and quick service. The food is somewhat more imaginative than usual - the burger with goat cheese and jalapeño was very good.

Great location, especially outside on the terrace, most definitely when there is a public holiday or a local event, when there is live music. Probably one of the oldest places of the city, it is a secluded place next to the Old Church, from which the name Oude Jan derives. Friendly and attentive staff, and a good choice of drinks and snacks.

At first glance, Oude Jan may look like öne of those 'touristic' cafe/restaurants but I assure you it is not. When you sit here, you see that locals also visit it a lot. And the dishes and the beers I had were rich and tasty. Top notch...

Very nice service! They made our birthday lunch very special and even replaced one of our beers when I got blown over by the wind. Food and beer was 10/10 delicious.

Hidden away from the busy touristic places, with great outdoor seating and excellent views of the old church, is cafe de oude jan. The prices are fair and the service is attentive. We had a homemade tomato soup with vegetables... Very hot so mind your tongue! The soup was served with sliced bread and a bit of butter. We also had toasted brown bread with goatscheese and ham which was very tasty. The pastrami sandwich, made in a typical Dutch style, was delicious. Americans might be surprised by what they are getting, as these are European style sandwiches. The tall latte passed the spoon test for the foam and was strong but not too bitter with a hint of creamy aftertaste. All in all very tasty food and all the dishes are named after locations in Delft that you can visit. The menu that also includes a map and some interesting historical information about Delft .
