★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nostalgic Dutch cafe with carpets on the table and real Amsterdam Oost (East) people attending. Owner Gijs is the unofficial mayor of the Java street where its located. He tells great stories when he's in the mood for it! They have billiard, darts and often football (the original game and name) games on the big screens. Yes Americans, you call that soccer... but only you ;).
Nice terrace in the summer. Normally not a place to eat but during the winter they often serve typical Dutch 'Stamppotjes' (thats food with mashed patotoes... a must try!) made by Gijs himself! Ask for it on wednesday winterevenings!
Forget the trendy bars for a moment. Visit Gijs for the real Dutch deal!
