About Camping Dark Dunes

Over camping De Donkere Duinen

Comunque consigliato.
Excellent well-kept campsite, with clean facilities and adequate to the size of the place. It has large pitches and lots of greenery both inside and out, since there is a forest around the campsite and dunes at the bottom. The distance from the beach is about 1 km and it is a splendid walk (on foot or by bicycle) in the greenery and on the dunes. Located in a residential area, it has supermarkets a few hundred meters away (5 minutes by bike) and is close to the access of a wonderful cycle path through the dunes, which runs along the sea and reaches the historic center of the town. Also from the center of you can take the ship to visit the island of Texel. (Ferry service of extraordinary efficiency). At the campsite you can find bikes for rent, the perfect way to get around Holland. The managers are very kind and nice. Only 4 stars out of 5 because I believe that a similar campsite should have a small market at least for bread and small daily expenses of fresh products or basic necessities and because the site should have the price list to be able to know in advance the expense that is required. will have to support. Still recommended.

On a Friday in late August we tried to catch the last ferry to Texel (21:30h), but arrived 10 min late at Den Helder. Being stuck that way, we drove to the next campsite "Donkere Duinen", which we reached at about 10 pm. It was already dark, no light in the reception (of course) and the barrier was down. Next to the barrier was a small parking site which was almost empty. We pulled in the parking with our VW campervan, as we did not see any choice. We just moved up the roof, wanting to use the facilities next morning after contacting the reception. I point out that we stayed in the campervan and did not even set a foot beyond the barrier. Within just 2 minutes some guy, maybe in his fifties, approached and barked at us in a most unfriendly way. We explained our situation, but he did not care and insisted we should leave the site immediately, complaining about our "behaviour". There was no offer or any solution approach from his side.

I'm so glad to have discovered this wonderful, SHADY campground in Holland! Especially after the overcrowded and tent-inhospitable German side of the North Sea coast. The bathrooms are spic and span and there are plenty of dishwashing sinks.Tropical beaches with a gorgeous dune landscape just around the corner. Plenty of history to relish and sights to see.

Very nice camp, there is everything that you need to stay few nights, but I think that you are in caravan, you can stay more than few nights and you'll be satisfied. There are little bit higher prices, but it is probably normal near the sea and near the so beautiful park and duinen. There is only one minus for me - wifi (we pay that for 24hours, but is didn't work well-personal asked us,but then it was not better, so we had a good connection in "restaurant" in front of camp - btw. good coffe and sweets :-)).
