In 1922, two brothers Jan Damen and Rien Damen organized boat production in a barn near their home, which marked the beginning of the history of the world famous Dutch shipbuilding corporation Damen. Officially, the company was formalized only five years later.
Over the next 40 years, the shipyard failed to achieve significant success. The situation changed dramatically in 1969. Then Kommer Damen bought the company from his father, Jan, and began to optimize and standardize production processes. It bore fruit and contributed to further development.
Nowadays, the annual turnover of Damen is about € 2 billion, the company occupies a leading position in the manufacture of ships for the industrial sector, the military industry and the transport fleet.
Also, recently, superyachts began to be built under the Damen brand. This market has not technically become a new direction for the corporation. Since 1991, the company owns Amels Yachts, which produces custom luxury boats for the private sector.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For the typical seaman, it’s a great place to drydock, 15mins walk to the free ferry which takes you to Amsterdam Central. Dock was well secured and access in and out the shipyard was easy. Dock workers were pretty helpful and assisted willingly when called upon. There were also a few immigrants working at the docks that will occasionally nag you for some sort of PPE. Only problem was one forklift operator who were always hesitant to assist even when ask by his own colleagues.
