DAY Collective is an artist duo consisting of Dorota Radzimirska and Yulia Ratman, based in Amsterdam. Their artistic research involves (participatory) performances and tactile forms. It deals with relations between people, as well as between people and their environment in modern societies, characterised by lack of trust, categorisation, disconnection from nature, and from ourselves. They see how these phenomena manifest through the manner of language and representation. Therefore by applying body movement, meditation, abstraction, and a minimum set of rules in their works, the narrative evolves during the process, from within. Through intimate experiences and tactile forms, they aim to activate the senses, intuition and imagination of visitors of their works to eliminate pre-constructed behaviours and beliefs, and what usually occurs is a relaxation of body and mind and a new embodied experience. In this way the borders between maker, viewer, and the work itself often dissolve.

BIO

Dorota Radzimirska (Poland, born 1985) and Yulia Ratman (Russia, born 1988) graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy (VAV - Fine Arts) in 2016. For both it was a second education. Dorota has an MA in Socio-Cultural Studies, Warsaw University, Poland (2010) and Yulia has a BA in Graphic Design and Illustration University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK (2011). The mutual interest in creating conditions for new relations, and forms of knowledge, together with a conscious approach in using materials lead them to establish DAY Collective. Their works were shown among others in Lustwarande, Framer Framed, H401, Punt WG, Mediamatic, Tropen Museum, Prospects at Art Rotterdam.
