De Bastei - Lange Baan 4
About De Bastei

β β β β β Great new museum in the city center of Nijmegen. With fantastic views over the city from their rooftop bar, you can learn about the natural history of Nijmegen, as well as the historical significance of the building itself. Really recommended for all ages. Children have the option to interact with historical objects and play games. Sadly not everything is too suitable for wheelchairs, because of the height differences inside. Perfect for an hour or so.

β β β β β The museum is good for the people who like the history of nijmwegen. The museum is a bit random. The view was great from the restaurant. I did not have doog experience with that restaurant; the cook was having a break at 13:00. The waiter was unfriendly, when we ware mad because we couldn't get any food he sweared to us.

β β β β β A relatively new opened museum in nijmegen. Located just at the side of waal river. Its contains collection that shows history of the fort and its surroundings natural biodiversity. On the top floor there is a cafe that will serve you cold drinks, some cakes and beautiful view towards the river and the bridge.

β β β β β An unexpected treasure...
The real gem here is the architecture, and it would be nice if the museum was a little more clear on the design idea and connections with historical details etc when you enter.
It was fascinating to be able to see the city from below and travel back in time, although the projections were a little childish they served their goal of presenting historical context well.
The nature exhibits... Were well-designed but lacked a bit of depth and interactivity. The one about de Waal was very impressive and had these elements.
The personell is super welcoming and friendly, from the entrance to the rooftop cafe (with an amazing view!!!) they will make your visit complete :)
The only negative was the shop, i think by Staatsbosbeheer? I personally don't think its okay to have a museum based on science, history and nature and to sell unscientific 'zweefteefparafernalia' like aura stones and such nonsense, but that's might me my problem.

β β β β β Lovely museum, interesting for children as well.with a nice mix of archeology and nature. A treasure hunt helps them get more involved. A couple of virtual reality elements keeps them interested throughout.
Be aware, you can't pay with credit cards, bring cash if you don't have a Dutch bank card.

β β β β β Really friendly helpful and enthusiastic staff. Great exhibition showing the history of the local area. Well laid out exhibits over several floors. Worth downloading the audio guide before your visit for more detailed explanations in alternative languages.
Not busy during my visit giving plenty of time to view each area and listen to the explanation.
Great view of the river area and park from the cafe terrace.
The VR headsets give an impression of the bastei function and construction in the past.
Great exhibition of the past and present local wildlife. Easy to spend 1-2 hours here.
