Down Under Restaurant - Markt 12

My partner and I have been visiting Down Under since it opened its doors. This is our second home. It really has a homy feeling. This is actually the only place we will eat on the market because we know we'll always get quality for a good price. All dishes are delishious and we've never been disappointed in all these years. They change their menu every now and then but keep the popular dishes as they know their guests love those. They have a great range of drink, coffees, alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks. There is a play area for kids. The owner even sent me a card when I got sick and they'll do their best to still serve me food (takeaway) since I'm a risk factor for Covid-19. The staff is great, when it's the owner and staff that works there for a long time. The new faces I've seen were slow to spot new custumors, had no knowledge snd just not the skills to be a waitress and had us wait for 15 minutes, so I had to go order drinks and ask for a menu myself. For years they had the same staff (blonde woman) who was very quick and social (I miss her). Since the "old" staff is gone the service has gone down for sure, so one tip for the owners: make sure any new staff is very social and experienced as these will be Down Under's faces. It's a part of why people keep coming back. Down Under is my number one to go to!

Update - vegetarians, go for lunch only. Post-covid, they have separate lunch and dinner menus. Only ONE dinner vegetarian dish now. VERY disappointing Family favorite. Relaxed atmosphere, delicious food, good cocktails in a good people watching spot if you sit on the patio.

onion soup, pumpkin soup with ginger, burger, frikadel for a child, tee with cinnamon, espresso. all was very good! very nice atmosphere!

Friendly staff, cozy place. Dishes were very good. Tenderloin with blue cheese and mushrooms is very good. Spareribs are also recommended.

They would've gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for the slow service. Otherwise, the food is impeccable. The kangaroo was definitely new for me and it was very delicious. Their special gin and tonic was great as well. Definitely recommend.

Nice place to have dinner, definitely coming back. The kangaroo was a first for me. Very well made and tasty. Appreciate that there is a kids room with plenty of toys.

The people were friendly, the food good however they take your food allergy not so serious. I called them in advance if gluten free was a problem. No problem. When I was there I got a suspicious dish and asked what's in it. It was no gluten according to them but then I asked what is it I'm getting here. I had to persist and ask three times before they admitted that is was dough from wheat. They did not excuse themselves or compensate. Not a nice experience Don't go there when you have an food allergy because somehow they don't seem to know what they are serving.
