About Farm Gagelgat - Foundation Horse Camp
De eerste bewoner: Corrie
Corrie, een Russische pony, was het eerste paard op De Paardenkamp. De 34-jarige merrie had sinds haar zevende lief en leed gedeeld met een boerenechtpaar uit Markelo. Zij lieten Corrie in de Tweede Wereldoorlog zelfs onderduiken om haar uit vreemde handen te houden. De pony was ernstig ziek geweest en weer beter geworden en had de kleine kinderen van de familie leren paardrijden. Toen de boerderij van het echtpaar verkocht werd, mocht Corrie naar Soest komen om bij De Paardenkamp van haar pensioen te genieten.
Dit verhaal trok nationaal enorm veel aandacht. Op 14 april 1962 werd Stichting De Paardenkamp officieel geopend en onder andere door de komst van Corrie, kwamen daar veel bezoekers op af. Veel van hen werden direct donateur van De Paardenkamp en steunden de stichting jarenlang. Hierdoor kon De Paardenkamp steeds iets meer uitbreiden.
