Forbion then and now
Forbion was born out of ABN AMRO Capital Life Sciences co-founded by Sander Slootweg, Martien van Osch and Bart Bergstein in 2000. Six years later, the entity transitioned to Forbion Capital Partners. Today, to emphasize its value-add beyond merely providing capital, the company is simply known as Forbion. For more than two decades, its investment team has built an impressive performance track record of sourcing, building and guiding life-sciences companies resulting in many breakthrough therapies and valuable exits.
Forbion currently manages over €1.8 bn across nine closed-end funds, including its €460m Forbion V Fund, which started investing in 2021, and its €360 million Forbion Growth Opportunities Fund I which started investing in 2020. As of April 2021, Forbion holds 31 active portfolio companies of which 4 are listed and 27 are private, bringing its investments to over 80 companies to date.
Forbion’s investors include the European Investment Fund (EIF), notably through its European Recovery Programme (ERP), LfA, the Dutch Venture Initiative (DVI) and AMUF facilities, and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KFW) through the ERP – Venture Capital Fondsfinanzierung facility.
