Impreuna cu fratii lui pescuiau in largul coastelor Zeelandei, apoi in 1781 a fost angajat de stat pentru servicii de pilotaj, iar in 1783 a fost numit pilot de port in regiunea Zeeland..iar in 1779 pe 23 iulie a contribuit la salvarea multor vieti in urma naufragiului fregatei "de Woestduyn".
Frans was born in Veere into a modest fishing family. Together with his brothers they fished off the coast of Zeeland, then in 1781 he was hired by the state for pilotage services, and in 1783 he was appointed port pilot in the Zeeland region..and in 1779 on July 23 he helped save many lives in following the sinking of the frigate "de Woestduyn".
