I was looking for a Dutch born author who has a book published in English. After Jarcoe searched his store, and recommended a number of authors, none of whom I recognized, I finally did locate the name of one I had on a list. He did not recognize the author, but in less than one minute he located a copy (on the computer) and told me that it could be in his store the next day if I wanted to order the book. So, in less than 24 hours I was the proud owner of the title, had the book stamped with the bookstore's info, and I was on my way. Thank you so much, Jarcoe, for your undivided attention and help with securing that title for me!! Thanks, too, for your recommendations about site seeing. Best wishes!

Be ready to be welcomed by the scent of old books, coffee and fresh flowers. The owner knows every book in the shop, so it's always handy to ask when looking for something specific or for a recommendation on what to read. Never pushy or insisting which I love! When lucky you may be served some really strong coffee and hit the cookie jar... Another plus point: baby changing facility!

The owner is always very welcoming: once we spend an hour discussing books by Dostoevsky, another time he recommends a book, I would never choose but loved in the end. Every time I am here, there is always a treasure among English books. On the top, the place is very well organized and cozy; I love it and recommend to all my friends and tourists.

The scent of old books, pleasant music, and friendliness of the owner fit together like a puzzle. Books touching all kind of topics and in different languages are stacked to the ceiling. The owner is very knowledgeable and has recommended me multiple books that I won't forget anytime soon. It is one of those stores that you will want to come back to. Definitely the best bookshop in and around Haarlem. (Oh, and the prices make you smile.)
