Ze vraagt of ik rook, ja dat doe ik en de huisarts roept dan moet je nu stoppen.
Geen goede combi met deze medicatie zeg ze en noemt vervolgens de risico’ op.
Oh oké zeg ik en vraag hier wat meer over.
Vervolgens zegt deze huisarts ineens.. dat ik ook maar moet stoppen met roken om het goede voorbeeld aan mijn zoon te geven.
Ik kijk haar aan en spreek haar hier op aan dat het nogal ongepast en onprofessioneel is om dit zeggen tijdens dit gesprek waar het over iets anders gaat.
Zij vond dat ze dit gewoon mocht zeggen en vroeg zich af waarom ik dit niet gewoon even naast mij neer kon leggen.
Wat zei tegen mij zei vind ik niet erg want sterker nog ik vind het zelf ook en we weten dat roken slecht is en niet het goede voorbeeld is.
Maar professioneel gezien kan/ mag je dit niet zeggen en zeker wanneer de patiënt je hier op aanspreek zich hier niet prettig bij te voelen.
Dit is zo’n typisch persoon die denk dat ze door haar functie alles maar mag zeggen.
Als je we dan toch over voorbeeld functies hebben DOKTER kijk dan even naar u zelf in de spiegel en inplaats van anderen mensen aanspreken op hun fouten en ongevraagd advies geven, begin aub bij u zelf.
I came to this doctor to get advice on medication
She asks if I smoke, yes I do and the doctor calls you have to stop now.
Not a good combination with this medication, she say and then mentions the risk.
Oh ok I say and ask a little more about this.
Then this doctor suddenly says .. that I should also stop smoking to set a good example for my son.
I look at her and speak to her about how it is quite inappropriate and unprofessional to say this during this conversation about something else.
She thought she could just say this and wondered why I couldn't just put this aside for a while.
I don't mind what said to me because in fact I think it too and we know that smoking is bad and not a good example.
But from a professional point of view, you cannot / may not say this, especially when the patient addresses you about not being comfortable with this.
This is such a typical person who thinks that because of her position, she can say anything.
While we do have example functions DOCTOR take a look at yourself in the mirror and instead of talking to others about their mistakes and giving unsolicited advice, please start with yourself.
