★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De brug is een oude spoorbrug. Behorende bij de spoorlijn Gouda naar Schoonhoven. Dit verklaart waarom deze ophaalbrug zoveel zwaarder gebouwd is dan de overige bruggen over de Karnemelksloot. De brug (hameipoort en ballans) was oorspronkelijk opgebouwd uit met klinknagels geklonken binten. De huidige klinknagels zijn echter nep. Naast de brug staat nog een spoorstaaf met een ets foto waarop afbeelding te zien is van een stoomtrein en het voormalige station op de hoek van de Eerste Kade. Als de brug open is kan je in de landhoofden nog de oude opleggingen en ondersteuningen van de rails zien. Aldus de voormalig gemeentelijke opzichter.
Gouda heeft op loop afstand in de binnenstad alle type van bewegingswerken van bruggen die er zijn. Bijzonder toch? Van ophaalbrug, draaibrug, basculebrug, klapbrug tot hefbrug.
