Symboliek
Het monument is een teken van nagedachtenis. Volgens ontwerper Appie Drielsma symboliseert het een onderbroken levenslijn of -ritme. De eenvoud maakt concentratie op het gebeurde mogelijk. De tekst op het monument vormt tevens een waarschuwing voor de toekomst; een waarschuwing tegen alle vormen van discriminatie.
 On the center column is a Hebrew text taken from the Bible book of Leviticus. The translation reads:
'KEEP SO MUCH
FROM YOUR NEIGHBOR
AS YOURSELF.
I AM THE ETERNAL'.
Symbolism
The monument is a sign of remembrance. According to designer Appie Drielsma, it symbolizes an interrupted lifeline or rhythm. The simplicity allows concentration on what happened. The text on the monument also serves as a warning for the future; a warning against all forms of discrimination.
