Ieder jaar met carnaval krijgen de meeste dorpen/steden in Noord-Brabant voor vier dagen een alternatieve naam. Vaak wordt dan figuurlijk de sleutel van de stad overgedragen door de burgemeester aan Prins Carnaval, en is de stad even "voor het feestende carnavalspubliek". De naam Kielegat verwijst naar de boerenkiel, een traditioneel kostuum bij het boerencarnaval dat in Brabant gevierd wordt.
Kielegat is the name for Breda during the carnival
Every year with carnival, most villages / towns in North Brabant receive an alternative name for four days. Often figuratively, the key of the city is transferred by the mayor to Prince Carnival, and the city is just "for the partying carnival audience". The name Kielegat refers to the peasant smock, a traditional costume at the peasant carnival that is celebrated in Brabant.
