Een vrij uitgebreid verhaal volgde over het stereotype voorbeeld wat 'Het Deiltje' naar verluid zou zijn en hoe het mooi de golving van de Molenvliet zou volgen. Allemaal prima, goed en wel, maar ook reden voor ons om nog eens een keer terug te gaan en een second opinion te vormen. Voor onszelf dan. Het Deiltje is namelijk echt zo'n knoop waar je, als je niet oppast, vrij snel mee klaar bent. We voelde ons dan ook geroepen om eigenlijk te belichten wat er in de vele stukken over deze 'traditionele 3' nou juist weinig wordt beschreven: de functie van siervijvers. In een tijd dat Knooppunten alleen nog maar waren voor de functionele doorstroom van verkeer, lang voordat er een grote shift kwam naar esthetische en daarmee sociaal-maatschappelijke waarde, waren knopen vaak kaal, kil en verre van inspirerend. De zogenaamde Kale Knopen hebben jarenlang de boventoon gevoerd in Nederland (en West-Europa) en waren dan ook simpelweg de enige opties. Het Deiltje was niet anders: een niet al te knappe, subtiel gebogen kale knoop met vier bladen. Innovatie is, zoals men weet, lastig in deze wonderlijke wereld maar het was in de jaren 70 (1973) dat het roer werd omgegooid en de A2 richting het zuiden niet langer de scherpe O kreeg, maar een slinger. Een 4 werd een 3 en dat gaf ruimte. Het kostte tijd, lef en doorzettingsvermogen maar bij het bouwen van de imposante oosterslinger werd een gat aangetroffen waar water in lag. Ver voor deze verbouwing was er al water gevonden in Het Deiltje maar nooit was stil gestaan bij het feit hier iets mee te doen, effectief dan. De eerste siervijver werd aangelegd, wat ruimte gaf voor een vrij divers palet aan flora en fauna om daar te floreren. Niet lang daarna volgde de andere vijvers, allemaal net in een andere vorm, en 'Het Deiltje' werd vrij onbedoeld een voorbeeld voor de rest van het land. Schitterende aanrijroute van het zuiden, waar de focus op die fly-over is, maar dan opeens is daar het water. In de bochten zelf is het uitzicht adembenemend en we kunnen dan ook niet anders zeggen dat het artikel in Vlechtwerk Holland klopt, maar onvolledig is. Hun 4 sterren zijn out-dated, precies omdat later pas duidelijk werd hoe bijzonder het eigenlijk is dat het dappere gebruik van siervijvers juist hier zo ongelofelijk veel verschil maakt. Een echte must-do om te pakken. Hebben we nog niet eens die megabochten op de hoeken meegenomen, maar die spreken natuurlijk helemaal voor zich. De symmetrie is treffend en waar zij net een beetje afwijkt zit spanning, durf, lef en een goeie dosis Hollandse nuchterheid. Want we kunnen natuurlijk uren en uren blijven doorzeven over Het Deiltje maar daar zit niemand op te wachten. Daarom is het gepast om hier gewoon to the point te komen: het is een van de topknopen van Nederland, heeft een prachtig historisch verhaal en een symmetrie om je vingers bij af te likken. Ga je er windroosjes rijden, begin dan eens vanuit het oosten (ja echt) en hou die superslinger voor je laatste brazzeltje (als je die al maakt) want dan komt 'ie extra binnen. Mooi om te zien dat zo'n gewaardeerde knoop toch nog blijft verbazen. Daar doen we het echt voor!! Onze beoordeling is dan ook simpel, maar toch voor de vorm: + Gaan, doen, hoppa! Vijvers!! (supermooi gedaan) - Vrij weinig Mag hier en daar wel weer eens een technische update krijgen (dit is GEEN dealbreaker!!) "Innovative use of space" "Deil junction, a classic Klaver-3 with a gentle curve" was the headline of the well-known article in Vlechtwerk Holland some time ago. A fairly extensive story followed about the stereotypical example of what 'Het Deiltje' allegedly was and how it would follow the undulation of the Molenvliet beautifully. All fine, well and good, but also reason for us to go back again and form a second opinion. For ourselves then. The Deiltje is really one of those knots that, if you are not careful, you can finish quite quickly. We therefore felt called upon to actually highlight what little is described in the many pieces about this 'traditional 3': the function of ornamental ponds. In a time when Nodes were only for the functional flow of traffic, long before there was a major shift towards aesthetic and thus social value, nodes were often bare, cold and far from inspiring. The so-called Bald Knots have predominated for years in the Netherlands (and Western Europe) and were therefore simply the only options. The Deiltje was no different: a not-too-handsome, subtly curved bald button with four leaves. Innovation is, as is known, difficult in this wonderful world but it was in the 1970s (1973) that the course was changed and the A2 towards the south no longer got the sharp O, but a pendulum. A 4 became a 3 and that gave room. It took time, guts and perseverance, but when building the imposing oriental pendulum a hole was found with water in it. Long before this renovation, water had already been found in Het Deiltje, but the fact was never thought about doing something with it, effectively. The first ornamental pond was created, which gave room for a fairly diverse palette of flora and fauna to flourish there. Not long after, the other ponds followed, all in a different shape, and 'Het Deiltje' quite unintentionally became an example for the rest of the country. Beautiful approach route from the south, where the focus is on that flyover, but then suddenly there is the water. In the bends themselves, the view is breathtaking and we can therefore say that the article in Vlechtwerk Holland is correct, but incomplete. Their 4 stars are out-dated, precisely because it became clear later how special it really is that the brave use of ornamental ponds makes such an incredible difference here. A real must-do to grab. We have not even included those mega bends on the corners, but of course they speak completely for themselves. The symmetry is striking and where it deviates just a bit, there is tension, courage, guts and a good dose of Dutch common sense. Because we can of course keep sifting through Het Deiltje for hours and hours, but nobody is waiting for that. That is why it is appropriate to just get to the point here: it is one of the top nodes in the Netherlands, has a beautiful historical story and a symmetry to lick your fingers. If you are going to ride wind roses, start from the east (yes really) and keep that super garland for your last brazzeltje (if you already make one) because then it will come in extra. It's nice to see that such a prized knot continues to surprise. That's what we really do it for !! Our assessment is therefore simple, but still for the form: + Go, do, hoppa! Ponds !! (well done) - Not much May get a technical update here and there (this is NOT a deal breaker !!)
