About Le Souk
Hoe het begon
Toen Mohammed Kemmoun in 1982 Groningen ontdekte en verkende miste hij al gauw een paar dingen die hij gewend was in zijn thuisland en die nergens te vinden waren in het noorden van Nederland, namelijk: lekkere olijven, gezonde dadels, verse vijgen en kruiden die in de keuken onmisbaar zijn. Dit was zijn reden om Groningen bekend te laten maken met de Noord-Afrikaanse en Mediterrane levensmiddelen. Sindsdien is Le Souk een begrip in Groningen.
Le Souk is gevestigd in het hartje centrum van Groningen. Het is een winkel met Noord-Afrikaanse kruidenier met lekkernijen uit de Maghreb landen, Mediterrane delicatessen en hapjes uit het Midden-Oosten. De letterlijke vertaling van Le Souk is de markt, kom langs en ervaar de sfeer van een Arabische markt in Groningen en koop producten die vrijwel nergens anders te vinden zijn.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just paid 4.50€ for an average bunch of dille, I saw him typing that, then got suspicious about a high total and asked, but the shop keeper lied to my face and said he charged less. Didn't get a detailed receipt, so I was helpless. This is not how to handle business in NL.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Highlight of our visit to Groningen! The store has so many products, that I had a difficult time choosing what to get. The spices are the main attraction for sure. The baklava was also excellent, not too sweet and sticky, just how it should be. The girl who helped me was very helpful and I’m definitely going to head north again soon.

I love that we can bring our own containers thus avoiding the unnecessary use of plastic packaging (That's why I buy my food here rather than in the Supermarket). I usually get the already prepared salads and a few of their desserts, but also rice, pasta, couscous, raisins and so on.
