Lucinda & Jaap met each other while working as logisticians for Doctors without Borders/ Medecins sans Frontieres, where they were used to making the impossible happen.
After a year of searching for a family holiday home in a wild piece of nature in the Netherlands, they found the Gingerbread Huis. The dream was to let their little city boys, Rafi and Archie, run free and have grand adventures in the forest.
An old gipsy wagon deep inside their forest inspired them to build MaJa's Hideaway. It turned into a big family project as Maarten, Jaap’s eldest son built it with his papa, with a lot of 'help' from the little boys. Lucinda designed the cabin to melt into this magical piece of forest. The whole family is very proud of the stunning long wall of windows, but also that it was built green by using mainly upcycled materials.
Lucinda’s best friend Karline, an Emergency Manager with Doctors without Borders, was leaving the organisation after 20 years and dreaming of a quiet spot in nature. Using the surplus energy of the Corona lockdown Lucinda and Karline searched for another magical place in nature to create their own dream cabin. This time a fairytale by the water with the possibility to make camp fires, swim and explore Dutch wetlands by boat and canoe. The tree-lined pasture by the river Ganzendiep provided the perfect spot to create the eco-designed LuKa's Hut. And of course… built by the big family!
