★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Mooi onderhouden monument welke je blik meteen vangt. Het ligt tegenover het Amsterdams lyceum en langs het sportveld, zo komen er altijd genoeg mensen langs die even aandacht besteden aan dit monument.
Beautifully maintained monument which immediately catches your eye. It is located opposite the Amsterdam Lyceum and along the sports field, so there are always enough people passing by to pay attention to this monument.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Originally a monument for a Dutch general Van Heutsz stationed in the Dutch Indies. It is a controversial monument that was blown up by protesters in 1965 and dynamite was found in 1985.
Throughout the years various people and organisations defaced this monument because of the actions of the General during colonial rule of Indonesia by the Dutch.
Besides all the historic controversy, the monument is huge and has some beautiful early 20th century art.
Locals call the female figure, flanked by two lions: "Mien with the dogs".
