β β β β β In 1466 the chapel was therefore elevated to 'ecclesia' and the church community was detached from The Hague. This was partly due to the forceful intervention - against the will of senior administrators - of the Scheveningen churchmaster IJsbrant Arentszoon who will be discussed here later. As a result, all religious acts could now take place in their own village. monksElderly and sick villagers were no longer deprived of this. It must have strongly emphasized the central function of the already existing chapel from that year. Was the current church built shortly thereafter? Because in the roof construction counting brands have been found that look like they date from the second half of the fifteenth century. And at least it was buried in 1469, as will be seen.

β β β β β My first day as expat in Scheveningen. The door is open, I walk in and take a look at the beautiful architecture. After two seconds I'm being thrown out by a super rude guy for reasons of a private party. I mean come on seriously, I was just taking a look at a church!! How could I know you're having private parties in churches here. Anyways, thanks for being neither kind nor inclusive and for making me feel zero welcome in this country. Really ruined my evening I must say. In any other place on this planet I would have been at least allowed to take a look around.

β β β β β The contrast between the teal ceilings, sea green rafters and the white walls and columns make the interior of this church striking to view. There is an historic organ and a choir organ. The church has regular Saturday afternoon concerts that are advertised in This is The Hague. I attended a concert by a pianist which was performed on an Erard saying to 1890. Warm acoustics make it ideal for chamber music.
