β β β β β A jewel hidden in Amsterdam's streets. Even if you think you're not interested by churches in attics, go! It's really interesting and surprising.
You each get a handy digital audioguide, about the size of a phone, which you can use as much or as little as you want as you wander through the rooms, with loads of information on it that you wouldn't expect. The house/museum itself is beautifully preserved and presented, with some strange quirks.
We spent about an hour there, but you could spend longer. It's very inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues, and not suitable for kids or people who don't like tight spaces, steep stairways or dark rooms! Adult tickets are β¬11, there's a free cloakroom, toilet, a great gift shop and a tea room.

β β β β β A neat little find for anyone traveling to Amsterdam. Stands in stark contrast to all the large cathedrals in Europe but has plenty of charm in its little foot print.

β β β β β Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, also known as Lord in the Attic, located at Oudezijds Voorburgwal 38, right in the middle of the city center and red light district is definitely a must see when visiting Amsterdam. It was built as a hidden church on the top three levels of three houses for Catholic worshippers who could not worship in public during the Dutch Reformation. Since it was a hidden church, I thought it would be small and cramped but the actual space for the church was quite roomy and the buildings in which it is housed were very impressive. The restoration of this museum did a very good job in showing how it looked back when the church was in service and at moments, while looking out a window, or standing in the formal room admiring a wall portrait, you could almost feel like you were back in time. Was worth a visit and I plan to return.

β β β β β Very well organized museum with a good audio guide in multiple languages. An exciting 2 hour visit, family friendly and usually no insane crowds.
The church in the attic is still a surprise, even if you know it is coming. Don't miss the surprising foldout pulpit!

β β β β β A complete church in the attic of an old canal houseβ¦ This is definitely something you should see! The history of this phenomenon is very well told. Wonderful experience. One word of warning: if youβre less mobile, the steep stairs can be challenging.

β β β β β If you're interested in history, religion, and/or architecture, you've got to visit this musem!! It provides such wonderful insight into how people lived back in the day. I learned so much and really enjoyed all the detail in the included audio tour. The staff are also very friendly and knowledgeable.

β β β β β Fascinating. Not only the history but a unique opportunity to see what's in those grand amsterdam houses we see on the canal.

β β β β β Brilliant museum, good for kids not to big and comes with audio tour (free) for adults and a kids version. Very clever I'm the setup you really get a good idea what the history was like.
Please note the church is on the fringes of the "red light" district..
