About Pannenkoekenrestaurant De Financien
Pannenkoekenrestaurant de Financiën ligt aan de Kasteellaan: van oudsher de verbindingsweg tussen het kasteel van Loon op Zand en België. Op dit soort verbindingswegen werd vroeger, en dan vooral in de Franse tijd, vaak tol geheven. De kosten daarvan lagen tussen de 2 cent per persoon, 2,5 cent voor een paard en 5 cent voor een postkoets. Een tripje van Tilburg naar Waalwijk kon dan “behoorlijk” in de kosten lopen, want alleen al op dat stuk werd destijds zo’n zes keer tol gevraagd.
Om alle passanten die per paard, postkoets, paard en wagen of te voet onderweg waren halverwege hun reis even tot rust te laten komen, ontstond rond 1900 een horecagelegenheid langs de weg: de Finantie. Een logische naam voor dit in eerste instantie nog kleine cafeetje aan een tolweg. In de loop der jaren breidde het café langzaam uit tot een begrip in de wijde omgeving en tot op de dag van vandaag is dat nog steeds het geval onder (bijna) dezelfde naam: de Financiën. Het is daarom niet toevallig dat de weg waaraan ons horecabedrijf ligt een eindje verderop óók Financiën heet. Net als het aangrenzende bos trouwens.

The most playground items in the park are old. The pancakes are very good. But the service system is complicated, you need to go inside to eat?!
The staff was very kind. But the owners need to invest in new playground of the park.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Returned after a few years to find a nicely renovated restaurant, and outdoors.
Great outdoor space, perfect for the kids and for family activities.
Inside the tables are properly spaced, to comply with the COVID-19 rules.
Unfortunately some other things that needed no renovation, turned out to have changed. Personally I found the pancakes very basic, as there was no crunchy edges and no buttery taste, like you would expect from a speciality restaurant. Perhaps they will score high on the scale of healthiness, instead. Could also be that it was because it was rush hour, but I'd prefer to wait a little longer and have the perfect Dutch pancake.
Coffee also did not score high: ordered espresso, got a normal ~120 ml coffee cup half filled with normal watery coffee. Sent it back, got exactly the same thing. I guess you use an automated machine, which needs proper calibration.
Decent selection of beers. Ice cream coupes were great.
Kids get some plastic coins that they can redeem into small toys, which is a great idea.
Overall, a fairly good experience and very family friendly, just some small details need to be improved.

In food they specialise in Pancakes - all kinds of them. Added a picture of pancake we ordered for our 2 year old.

There's plenty of places to drop off your kids and enjoy some nice food in the meanwhile. Definitely a place I would recommend.

The main things in this restaurant is the food which they serve my favourite pancake dish in addition to some delicious food. Also, they have complementary gift for kids with their pancake meal.
