Nice park near city centre. Drinking is allowed in the park. Perfect for BBQ on a sunny day.

Corona update (top bit). This park is always the main meeting place for minority-minority new citizens during the summer as well as students. These groups still gather here now during good weather periods. So much so that this park made national news. Want to avoid police attention? The Voorveldse Polder is still within walking distance. If you have a bike, the Gagelbos (Northeast) offers park-like environments as well as wide open spaces. Try Google maps for more options in your erea! Utrecht is a fairly compact city with more than just parks! For example estate Amelisweerd (South) is a HUGE park (including historical landmarks). Ideal for those near student location " De Uithof". This park is located within the Singel (the moat surrounding Utrecht, so formerly along the city-walls). One of the nicer open fields near the city center, attracting locals, students and (recent) immigrants during the summer months. Good for a summer-day BBQ or limited outdoor activity (please don't hit me with a ball). A "bring beer and sandwiches" type of location. Railway museum close-by (mostly peak-season-railway station and all-year bus-stop). Permanent male (basic) toilet facility. Two portable (enclosed lockable) chemical toilets next to that (late summer 2019). Semi-permanent group of "non-sociables" nearby. Tourist tip: follow the Singel around the center for a walk when on a multi-day visit. A lot of it is park (over 50%) and you will see much of old-Utrecht (the hard part is passing shopping center "Hoog Catharijne") - Catharijnesingel on Google maps - Singel reconstuction going on (time of posting fall 2019). Advise break: Twijsntraat (oldest shoppingstreet in the Netherlands - museum quarter) - also there: medieval wall-segments. You will also pass the star observatory on this walk. Park Lepelenburg will be either on your way or can be your starting point and end destination. If your starting-point, I suggest you head North - you will have a nice park-like start, pass the city theater, pass the old jail (pass the "Zandbrug" (don't turn back towards the Oudegracht here but follow the Nieuwekade or better - cross the Weerbrug (look for the hidden stairs down to the old city-gate foundation) and take a left at the Weerdsluis. Turn (left again) onto the Catherijnesingel/ Catherijnekade. SORRY - you will now reach the shopping-center "Hoog Catherijne" (can be spelled in various ways). This is a building-pit on the ground level when I write this (fall-2019). Use Google-maps to reach the park-path along the "Geertbolwerk". Just park and nice scenes from thereon on - still 55 to 60% of your walk (the geren bit along the water on Google maps - stay in the green bit.

Another beautiful park in the heart of Utrecht. But as with just about everywhere in The Netherlands, not everyone loves their dogs enough to clean up after them. Watch your step, and you'll enjoy all the green spaces!

Lepelenburg Park used to be a chic park for events, concerts and picnics. Nowadays its filled with underground garbage containers, urinals and shabby looking visitors who drink alcohol and use drugs.

This is a very nice small park direct in the city just to have a break. There is some grass to sit on it, a playground and a open air stage for music. People are playing, making gym or just chilling in the sun. Most time it is crowded. In the morning it is nice.
