β β β β β Begin mei zat het afstuderen er aan te komen en lag er een nieuwe baan in het verschiet. Omdat ikzelf uit het noorden van Nederland kom was Amsterdam voor mij absoluut onbekend terrein. Zeker omdat de woningmarkt in Amsterdam erg berucht was (en is) om de snel stijgende huisprijzen en hoge huurlasten keek ik er erg tegenop. In september zou mijn nieuwe functie beginnen dus ik stond onder tijdsdruk, niet de meest ideale omstandigheden.
De kalmte waarmee ik ben geholpen bij PRO Makelaars bood was een absolute geruststelling. Uiteindelijk ben ik op een prachtige plek in Amsterdam Oud-West geland in een appartement die ideaal past bij mijn woonbehoeften en budget. Ik besef vele maanden later hoe ontzettend veel geluk ik heb gehad om hier voor een goede prijs te kunnen wonen in een bruisend buurtje in Amsterdam. Ik ben daarom PRO makelaars ontzettend dankbaar om mij in deze onbekende markt goed en professioneel te begeleiden.
Een absolute aanrader.
At the beginning of May, graduation was about to arrive and a new job was on the horizon. Because I come from the north of the Netherlands, Amsterdam was absolutely unknown territory for me. Especially because the housing market in Amsterdam was (and is) very notorious for the rapidly rising house prices and high rental charges, I was very disappointed. My new position would start in September so I was under time pressure, not the most ideal circumstances.
The calm with which I was helped at PRO Makelaars offered was an absolute reassurance. Eventually I landed in a beautiful place in Amsterdam Oud-West in an apartment that fits my home needs and budget perfectly. I realize many months later how incredibly lucky I have been able to live here for a good price in a bustling neighborhood in Amsterdam. I am therefore extremely grateful to PRO real estate agents for guiding me well and professionally in this unknown market.
An absolute must.

β β β β β My experience with Promakelaars was very possibly the worst service experience I've ever had. I've lived in three different countries, The US, France and The Netherlands and understand that customer service standards and expectations vary from country to country. Vincent at Promakelaars, however, took unprofessionalism and inconsideration to a new low in his ways of dealing with tenant conflicts and resolving property issues.
He didn't respond promptly with a fix or with priority when we had a whole-home electrical outage and a plumbing issue that left us without a functioning bathroom. He had suggested his handyman take care of it a week later and I was left to sort it out myself in a more timely manner so that we could have necessary plumbing and electricity for living.
When trying to sort out a check-out-date misunderstanding calmly and kindly (as I'd always prefer), he immediately transitioned to an aggressive, abusive tone, raising his voice while accusing, insulting, threatening, being condescending and not once offering an opening to discuss a mutually agreeable solution or at the very least, offering consideration or consolation for our position. I was left feeling verbally beaten down and I believe this is no way to ever treat another human being.
He misunderstood that the day our movers packed up our belongings was the day we were checking out of our apartment. He thus booked other tenants during our paid up month before discussing our check out date and time or confirming the move in date of the new tenants with us when it overlapped with our month's stay. We told him we'd get back to him with a check out date/time, yet before we could, he'd booked new tenants, inconveniently limiting our options for check out. We had confirmed in March with the owners that new tenants would be moving in from 1 May and we had paid up for the entire month of April.
We learned that he had double booked our apartment only 11 days before our intended/preferred check out date, and 6 days before the date that he insisted we check out. He refused to offer a solution for a later check out as he'd already booked the other tenants to move in. This unfortunately happened on the weekend of King's day when hotels were booked. We also have two dogs which makes it harder to find short term rentals or hotels. I was in the US during this confusion and due to return the day *after* the date Vincent was insisting we check out -- leaving my boyfriend solo to manage packing and moving to storage, our two small dogs, cleaning, transporting two-weeks worth of luggage for two humans and two dogs, and transitioning to a temporary place to stay (outside of Amsterdam as within the city was booked), all in one day.
Still, Vincent approached this misunderstanding and our situation with a very aggressive, threatening manner. We received no consolation, apology, or solution on his part to the major inconvenience this caused us. I didn't even have the chance to fully, calmly explain how we'd been inconvenienced as I was quickly cut off with his accusatory claims. I'm quite confident that insisting we hand over the apartment before a mutually agreed upon check out date and before the end of our month's paid term -- under these conditions -- is not legal in The Netherlands.
We are apartment owners ourselves, and I most definitely would not recommend or trust Vincent at Promakelaars as property managers as his standard of service is, from my experience, incredibly poor and outrageously unprofessional. They have taken tenant care (and human concern) to an unfortunate low.
Our monthly rent was more than 2000 euro and I would expect a much much higher standard of professionalism from property managers of rentals of this cost.
I truly hope that Promakelaar's team are able to learn and improve from this misstep.
