Natuurlijk zijn aan onze uitzendingen kosten verbonden en daarom doen wij een beroep op uw steun. Maar ook hoort de collecte al vanaf de tijden van de eerste christenen bij de H. Eucharistie: men bracht gaven mee voor de noodlijdenden, en sloot zich zo aan bij de offergedachte van de viering. Tijdens de H. Eucharistie vieren we immers die grote zelfgave van Christus voor ons. Door de collecte (donatie) draagt u niet alleen bij aan de basiliek en aan de activiteiten van de Nicolaasgemeenschap, maar neemt u ook heel actief deel aan de viering van de H. Eucharistie die u via het internet hebt bijgewoond.

Nicolaasparochie
Onze parochie telt zes katholieke kerken. De Nicolaasbasiliek is de hoofdkerk. Daaraan gelieerd is de HH. Petrus en Pauluskerk (De Papegaai). Verder zijn er vier “rectoraatskerken”, die worden geleid door een religiuze organisatie. Weblinks naar onze kerken vindt u boven aan deze pagina.
In die kerken komen gelovige mensen, zoekende mensen en gelovige zoekende mensen. Er komen mensen uit alle culturen. Soms als toerist, soms als nieuwe bewoners van ons land. Daarnaast wonen en zwerven in onze parochie mensen voor wie nauwelijks plaats is in de samenleving. Ook zij komen. Omdat de kerk er voor iedereen is. Door de rijkdom aan culturen en achtergronden is kerk-zijn in het hart van de hoofdstad een bijzondere ervaring.

β β β β β This was previously a secret Catholic church during the reformation. An unassuming entrance from the street leads to a beautiful, expansive church.
A men's choir sang Gregorian chant for the 12:15 Mass which was incredible. Well worth a quick visit if you're nearby. Sunday Mass Times:

β β β β β A formerly concealed church... Peace in the middle of a hectic Amsterdam
This is a former concealed Catholic church, stil in use for Holy Mass and confession. Yes, it is open to the public. Walk down Kalverstraat to find this church. Keep your eyes open, because it is easy to walk by this location. You will immediately feel the peace and quite as you enter.
Walk right in and have a look around. This is a house of worship, so please whisper so others can sit down and accept the invitation that is posted by the entrance of this church: "15 minutes for God".
There is a host sitting in the back of the church, available to answer your questions, provide you with a candle, and even a rosary if you wish.
As you sit here, you can only start to imagine how this church was built and used after the Catholic's were forced to leave the city. This church is proof that no matter how hard we try, you can never truly force a change of religious tradition on anybody. Beliefs will continue to live on, no matter how hard you try to influence it.
