β β β β β Blue Economie on the top. These guys collect local waste (coffee) and then grow oyster mushrooms. Finaly, there is no more waste because of all residual products are again good use elsewhere.

β β β β β I followed their 4-day intership, where i learned how to start up a coffeegrounds-to-mushroom production. Great experience, I can really recommend it to anyone who wants to start up such a business!

β β β β β Siemen, Mark and Nate are friendly people with a lot of knowledge amongst them. They have the spirit to make a change in the world and that is noticable.
The internship was very practical with a lot handson. Every question asked was answered by them.
I have enjoyed the internship and the company from the trainers as well. The internship for me gave in insight how to grow mushrooms, customers needs and business cases.
Kind regards,
Jack Wink

β β β β β In December 2014, the team of Le Champignon de Bruxelles took part in the "leerwerkplek" training offered by RotterZwam. I must say that this step was a cornerstone in the creation of our own mushroom project in Brussels. Siemen and Mark were very inspiring for us and together with the help of Nathan we have learned so much and so fast! Today, as our project evolves, we often go back to our notes to see how to improve our facilities and do it in an ecological and DIY way!
I therefore highly recommend them for their knowledge and generosity!

β β β β β I was very impressed by the tour of RotterZwam, which I participated in as part of a Wageningen University RUW urban agriculture excursion. I learned a lot about mushroom cultivation and thought it was great what they are doing with closing nutrient loops and reducing waste through growing mushrooms on a substrate of coffee grounds/husks. Really makes me want to read the book Blue Planet on a more localized economy that encourages entrepreneurship from waste :)

β β β β β When I had the chance to get to Rotterdam for an internship at RotterZwam I did not know what to expect and what information they would share with me and what I was allowed to ask. But those worries where blown away immediately by the way Siemen, Mark and Nathan shared all their valuable knowledge and information about how to successfully grow mushrooms. The strong believe in open source ideology and the blue economy and the way they shared everything was really inspiring and motivating. They showed me everything from coffee collection, substrate preparation, room conditioning, harvesting, product development and a whole lot more. Therefore I strongly recommend everyone who thinks about starting a business as a mushroom grower, everyone who likes to grow mushrooms at home, or everyone who is interested in environmental issues and sustainability, to gain knowledge and be inspired by the awesome people at RotterZwam.
