★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "Sensational" just doesn't cut it. The food was beyond fantastic. If you "like" cauliflower, be prepared to "love" cauliflower. Amazing. If you get a chance to go and taste this menu, sept 2017, go. The food is truly good, bordering sensational. The service excellent and yes the prices a bit steep. The wine menu is extensively German, Rieslings, Grauburgunders and Weiss burgunders, absolutely fantastic. A great night out and fabulous food, this is the place. Enjoy.

Old:
Was expecting better for this price level. Don't get me wrong the food tasted really good all the German wines were excellent. I was just missing the sizzle and creativity in the dishes. It wasn't in the taste and not in the products used, just think that at other restaurants in Amsterdam for the same price you can expect to get more creativity and flair in the presentation and overall service. In a sense the overall German theme was reflected in the dishes and the service as it felt reserved and conservative.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Looking for a former naval building which has been sympathetically converted into a bright, natural light-filled, spacious restaurant with an odd name, with great views into the kitchen and over the Ij, where excellent, funny staff serve superb dishes from a menu split into five sections comprising raw, vegetables, meat/fish, cheese, and dessert, accompanied by a brilliant and wholly German wine list with reasonable mark-ups and plenty of affordable choices in the "bread and butter" section, and who upon overhearing that it was a friend's birthday brought an extra portion of a brownie to the table with a sparkler without it even being requested?
Yes, that might be a very specific list of requirements, but Scheepskameel will definitely fulfill them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic restaurant with amazing food and a huge selection of German wine. Portions are rather on the smaller side but if you have 4-5 courses, you will not feel hungry afterwards. Each dish can be paired with the recommended wine.
