Geschiedenis
Het betreft een neogotische kapel, waarvan het schip gebouwd is tussen 1868 en 1872. Het koor werd in 1885-1890 toegevoegd. De bewoners van Hushoven waren de opdrachtgevers, en deken Franciscus Boermans schetste het ontwerp.
In 1926 werd het interieur vernield, en dit werd weer hersteld. De meeste voorwerpen uit de inventaris, zoals beelden en kruiswegstaties, zijn van na 1940.
Gebouw
Het betreft een bakstenen gebouw, met leien gedekt, waarvan het driezijdig gesloten koor wat lager is dan het schip.
De voorgevel is rijk versierd door banden van zwarte bakstenen en een overkragend bakstenen klokkentorentje. Ook de zijgevels en het koor zijn voorzien van banden van zwarte baksteen, wat bijdraagt aan de eenheid van het gebouw.
De kapel heeft een 80-tal zitplaatsen, er worden soms nog huwelijken ingezegend.
The Sint-Donatuskapel is an accessible chapel in Hushoven (municipality of Weert), located near Sint-Donatuskapelstraat 1.
History
It is a neo-Gothic chapel, the nave of which was built between 1868 and 1872. The choir was added in 1885-1890. The residents of Hushoven were the clients, and Dean Franciscus Boermans sketched the design.
In 1926 the interior was destroyed and restored. Most of the objects in the inventory, such as statues and Stations of the Cross, are from after 1940.
Building
It is a brick building, covered with slates, of which the three-sided closed choir is somewhat lower than the nave.
The façade is richly decorated with bands of black bricks and an overhanging brick bell tower. The side walls and the choir also have bands of black brick, which contribute to the unity of the building.
The chapel has about 80 seats, and marriages are sometimes still celebrated.
