About St Lebuïnus Church
Sinds 1987 wordt in de historische Lebuinuskerk een kerstmarkt gehouden, gelijktijdig met het weekend waarin het landelijk bekende Dickens Festijn plaatsvindt. De kerstmarkt is opgezet door de Stichting Erfgoed Lebuinuskerk (SEL). Deze stichting zorgt voor het onderhoud en beheer van de Lebuinuskerk en is ook verantwoordelijk voor de verhuur van het gebouw voor talloze bijeenkomsten en evenementen.
De Lebuinuskerk is het belangrijkste monument van de stad en de toren geldt als beeldbepalend. De stichting van een eerste kerk op deze plek in 768 door de heilige Lebuinus geldt als het vroegst gedocumenteerde begin van Deventer; vandaar dat in 2018 het 1250-jarig bestaan van de stad kon worden gevierd.
De Stichting Erfgoed Lebuinuskerk streeft ernaar de Lebuinuskerk als monument voor iedere Deventenaar toegankelijk en in goede staat te houden. Dat vergt de inzet van vele vrijwilligers. De SEL vindt het belangrijk dat de Lebuinuskerk al eeuwen lang wordt bezield door bloeiend kerkelijk leven. De opbrengst van haar activiteiten en dus ook die van de kerstmarkt komen evenwel volledig ten goede aan het onderhoud en de inrichting van dit monument van alle Deventenaren.

Best place ever to have a coffee close to the river or even have a trip with a boat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A lovely place this old Church "St Lebuïnus Church" in the heart center of Deventer. Usually, during the summer period (perhaps also September) the tower access (the stairs) is opened, the fee is a symbolic one (2 or 3 euro per adult), but the view is amazing!
