Park Sonsbeek
Parel in de Veluwzoom Arnhem kan met recht een parkenstad worden genoemd. Niet voor niets werd Arnhem in 2008 uitgroepen tot “De Groenste Stad van Nederland” en in 2009 zelfs tot “De Groenste Stad van Europa”. De Gelderse hoofdstad telt dertien prachtige parken. Sonsbeek is ongetwijfeld het bekendste park, op slechts vijf minuten lopen vanaf het NS-station en het centrum van de stad.
Men noemt Sonsbeek ‘de parel in de Veluwezoom’. Tijdens de voorlaatste ijstijd kreeg het Veluwemassief in grote lijnen de vorm die wij nu kennen. Grote ijsmassa’s plooiden het landschap in bevroren toestand. Later werd door de wind löss en dekzand op de hellingen afgezet. Zo ontstond er een rijk geschakeerd gebied met als levensader de Sint-Jansbeek, ook wel Molenbeek genoemd. Aan haar oevers stond eeuwenlang een tiental watermolens. Daar zijn er nu nog twee van over, waarvan er één tot op de dag van vandaag nog dienst doet als korenmolen: de monumentale Witte Watermolen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Peaceful location with wonderful view. The menu isn't anything unique or highly innovative but the dishes are nice and prepared well. Some staff is clearly more knowledgable than others. When asking about lactose-free options we were helped out by a young man who took the dietary-restrictions very serious. Unfortunately when the dishes were served we were told by the waitress that they were both lacto-free. Thank god we double checked with the first waiter because it turned out one dish did contain dairy. Other than this issue we had a wonderful meal at Sonsbeek.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good place for lunch and dinner. The menu is quite ok and the ambiance good. Take care if large groups are already inside. It would appear that the kitchen is rather quickly over stretched and waiting times can become (very) long in such a case.
