Jonge studenten en ondernemers Johan Assink, Carsten van Eken, Stephan van Eken, Thom Wernke en Jan Hein de Wilde kenden elkaar van Faculty Association EOS, een studentenvereniging van de Social Sciences faculteit aan de Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam. De vijf studenten stonden op een gegeven moment in de bar en discussieerden: “Goed, we hebben allemaal ons eigen bedrijf, alleen geen kantoor. Hoe fantastisch zou het zijn als we een gebouw op een centrale locatie in Amsterdam weten te vinden, dat we kunnen vullen met startups zoals wij zelf die allen hun netwerk, middelen en kennis delen?”
