The monument is the work of sculptor Louis Royer (1856) and is found at Grote Market in front of St. Bavo Church. Here you see a bronze of a middle-aged L.J. Coster. He is in robe with his right hand raised, holding what appears to be a small print block. The statue stands upon a three metre tall stone ornamental pedestal with engraving of Dutch information about L.J. Coster and his achievement of inventing printing in his home city of Haarlem. This is one of the interesting monuments you can see when sightseeing around the city. It is worth spending a few minutes to enjoy when you pass through Grote Markt.
