★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This monument was created in honor of Vincent van Gogh in 1932. The standing stone on top is set on an old millstone. The millstone rests on seven other stones. At the edge of the millstone, it's written "Vincent van Gogh worked in this village Dec 1883 - Nov 1885".
Back in 1929, a committee in Amsterdam was set up to create a permanent monument commemorating the 40th anniversary of Vincent van Gogh's death. Hildo Krop was asked to make it. Hildo Krop was known as the official city sculptor of Amsterdam. He is responsible for sculptures on many bridges and houses in Amsterdam.
