About Stichting Spaarne Gasthuis
Freule Teding van Berkhout stichtte in 1874 het Diaconessenhuis in Haarlem. De freule behoorde tot de protestantse kring van het Réveil, die religieuze verdieping wilde combineren met hulpverlening.
In 1874 kocht freule Teding een huis aan de Nieuwe Gracht 90 in Haarlem, dat plaats bood aan acht patiënten. Enkele jaren later nam zij een nieuw gebouw in gebruik aan de Hazepaterslaan.
In 1973 was de nieuwbouw klaar in Heemstede.
