★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Trafigura is een verschrikkelijk bedrijf. In 2006 hebben ze een immense lading gif naar Ivoorkust gestuurd. Het is hier uiteraard niet verwerkt, maar gedumpt, waarbij doden en gewonden zijn gevallen.
Dit zou in principe genoeg moeten zijn om boos te worden, maar dan miste je het totaalplaatje. De Zwitserse NGO Public Eye heeft recentelijk een rapport gepubliceerd waaruit blijkt dat Trafigura vergiftigde olie heeft verkocht aan West-Afrikaanse landen. De olie bevatte in sommige gevallen ruim 300 keer zoveel zwavel als binnen de EU is toegestaan. Bovendien werden er kankerverwekkende stoffen als benzeen aan toegevoegd.
Ze ontkennen dit schandaal niet en zeggen simpelweg dat ze geen lokale wetten hebben gebroken. Nou dan is het toch goed? Nee! De luchtkwaliteit in steden als Lagos en Dakar is slechter dan in Peking.
Richt dit bedrijf alsjeblieft ten gronden.
Trafigura is a terrible company. In 2006 they sent an immense shipment of poison to Ivory Coast. It was obviously not processed here, but dumped, resulting in deaths and injuries.
In principle, this should be enough to get angry, but then you missed the big picture. The Swiss NGO Public Eye recently published a report showing that Trafigura has sold poisoned oil to West African countries. In some cases, the oil contained more than 300 times as much sulfur as is permitted within the EU. In addition, carcinogenic substances such as benzene were added.
They are not denying this scandal and are simply saying they have not broken local laws. Well then it is okay? No! The air quality in cities such as Lagos and Dakar is worse than in Beijing.
