About Utrecht University

Overrated university. The facilities for the humanities studies are severely outdated and really poor quality. The structure of the course was also confusing. They assume from the beginning that everyone has followed the Dutch curriculum so if you are an international or haven't learned about a specific subject in high school you are already starting behind. Also for an international university, the classes consist almost entirely of Dutch students; any internationals were typically just from Dutch islands abroad so naturally cliques form and classes become quite Dutch. There is preferential treatment given to Dutch students over internationals so I couldn't possibly recommend studying here when there are better options for international students.

Very nice campus with lots of outside seating areas, parking space for bikes and free workout sport opportunities. Unfortunately there is a lot of trash next to the river on campus.

Terrible experience in the Environmental Biology master. The teachers barely gave us any classes, they made us buy expensive books and learn from there. Despite being an international master in english the english level of some of the teachers is very poor and some of the content given is not even translated from Dutch. Their attitude is xenophobic and the teachers often would make discriminatory remarks to the students. None of the foreign students in my year was happy about the treatment. The teachers often would not sign our contracts or review our essays on timd. I missed a scolarship for waiting two months for a signature despite several reminders. My first internship got graded four months after I gave the last version of my thesis. It is not a serious department and is not recommended for foreigner students.

My experience at the University, as an employee, working during a pandemic isnt very pleasant (as supposed to staying at home). It has inspiring and cost efficient architecture. But I'm not sure how well the safety of the students is ensured. Although corona measures are properly implemented.

A nice spot to visit around Utrecht Centruum, located within walking distance from Utrecht Centraal Station. It's close to other landmarks of Utrecht (e.g. The Dom) so visiting it will worth your time. It has a nice small garden inside.

with its construction in 1636 it is the oldest town in the city, it was very nice to be able to participate in such an action. inside there is a garden with numerous natural sculptures. every click is worth it

Very nice ambiance. I especially liked the library, it has many floors and facilitates studying.

The University just see international students as a way to make money. Not enough housing are provided to internationals and the private market is very xenophobic ( NO_INTERNATIONALS adds are shamelessly on every facebook groups). Also the student association or even the administration don't make any effort to integrate the Internationals student to the university life, and just doesn't help when it comes to integration matters. As I see it, university in the Netherlands are just giant cash-machine, promoting themselves using diversity adds (even if racism and lgbqia+ phobia are still a reality on campus) and new trendy one-year masters program to attract people from abroad and make them pay the higher price. Even tough Utrecht is a beautiful city when it doesn't rain.
